Winter has arrived and my usual moisturizer is not cutting it anymore. I am looking to upgrade to something with ceramides for barrier support, ideally with some occlusive power to get me through overnight without waking up tight. I do not mind a heavier texture at night. Fragrance-free strongly preferred. I would love to know what has earned a permanent spot in your rotation and, just as helpful, what looked great on paper but pilled under sunscreen or felt greasy without actually hydrating. I have been burned by pretty jars that were mostly water. Also curious whether anyone layers a plain occlusive like a thin slugging step over their moisturizer on the worst nights, and whether that is overkill or genuinely helpful for very dry skin.
